Setting personal goals based on your Self-assessment
- Review your self-assessment
- Revisit your reflections on traits, strengths, weaknesses, and values.
- Highlight the key areas where you want to grow.
- Identify Specific Areas for Improvement
- Choose one or two traits or skills you want to develop.
- Ensure they align with your core values and long-term aspirations.
- Set SMART Goals
- Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve. For example, "I want to improve my public speaking skills."
- Measurable: Determine how you will track your progress, the progress should be measurable. For example, "I will give a presentation once a month."
- Achievable: Ensure your goal is realistic and achievable. For example, start with small groups before larger audiences.
- Relevant: Align your goal with your overall personal or professional objectives.
- Time-bound: Set a deadline for when you want to achieve this goal. This is the most important point. If there is no deadline, you do not work, which is the natural human tendancy. So, for example, "I will do work X within six months.". There should be a time frame like this.
- Break down goals into actionable steps
- Outline smaller and manageable tasks that lead to your main goal. For example, join a public speaking group, practice with friends, etc.
- Assign deadlines to these tasks to maintain a momentum.
- After an action is taken, think about what is the next best action to be taken, and take that.
- Seek resources and support
- Identify toold, courses or mentors that can help you to achieve your goals.
- Consider joining groups or communities related to your goal.
- Monitor your progress
- Regularly check in on your goals and assess your progress.
- Adjust your strategies if you encounter any obstacles.
- Celebrate milestones
- Recognize and reward yourself for achieving smaller milestones along the way. This will keep you motivated.
- Even though this keeps you motivated, ensure not to extend this celebration much, as you need to take a step forward for achieving a greater success.
- Reflect and adjust
- After reaching a goal, reflect on what you learned and how you can apply it in the future.
- Be open to revising your goals based on new insigts or changing circumstances.
- Document your journey
- Keep a journal or digital record of your progress, thoughts and feelings throughout the process.
- Stay Committed
- Remind yourself of the reasons behind your goals and stay motivated.
- Surround yourself with supportive and motivating individuals who encourage your growth and not demotivate you.
Note: If you decide to follow the above mentioned points, do not expect to see a change in yourself overnight. Changes in your personality happen overtime, if you give time and patience to it consistently.
